Bon Jovi classificado como uma banda de hard rock fundada no ano de 1984 no estado de Nova Jersey. O nome Bon Jovi, surgiu de uma brincadeira que os integrantes da banda fizeram com o nome de Jon.

Os membros actuais do grupo já se tinham se cruzado no passado, mas a formação original não se juntou até Março de 1983. Jon precisava duma banda, decidindo contactar para David Bryan (Actual Teclado/Vocal), que chamou Alec John Such (ex Baixo/Vocal) e Tico Torres (Actual Bateria), e conseguiram um contrato com a gravadora Polygram a 21 de Janeiro de 1984.

Vários guitarristas passaram pela banda, entre eles Dave "The Snake" Sabo, futuro membro da banda Skid Row, até que Richie Sambora se juntou definitivamente ao grupo. Antes de entrar na banda, Richie excursionou com Joe Cocker, tocou com o grupo Mercy e chegou a fazer um teste para ser membro da banda Kiss.

Tico Torres também era um músico experiente. Gravou com Miles Davis e tocou ao vivo com The Marvelettes e Chuck Berry.

David Bryan era um recruta natural. Interrompeu a digressão da banda que fundou ao lado de Jon Bon Jovi, e passou pela Juilliard School, uma famosa escola de música para depois então retornar a parceria com o velho amigo de escola.

No ano 1984 a banda lançou o seu primeiro álbum Bon Jovi tendo como grande sucesso a música “Runaway”, que já teria sido gravada no ano de 1983 com músicos contratados.

O ligeiro sucesso do primeiro álbum animou os produtores da banda para um segundo álbum. Em 1985 é lançado o álbum 7800° Fahrenheit, mas desta vez a recepção não foi tão boa como a do primeiro. A revista britânica “Kerrang!”, que tinha sido positiva em relação ao álbum de estreia, chamou este álbum "uma fraca imitação do Bon Jovi que nós conhecemos e aprendemos a gostar". O músico Jon Bon Jovi posteriormente confirmou que o álbum poderia e deveria ser melhor.

Seguindo-se Slippery When Wet, lançado em 1986, produzido por Bruce Fairbarn e gravado em Vancouver, Canadá. O álbum levou a banda ao top de astros mundiais, com grandes sucessos como "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer", e "Wanted Dead or Alive". Só nos EUA, o álbum vendeu mais de 12 milhões de exemplares.

O próximo álbum, New Jersey, lançado em 1988 tendo sido dos álbuns favoritos dos fãs, com sucessos como "Bad Medicine", "Lay Your Hands on Me", “Born to Be My Baby” e "I'll Be There For You", que permanecem nos índices até aos dias de hoje.

No começo da década de 1990, As brigas entre os membros tornaram-se cada vez mais constantes e a banda resolveu "dar um tempo".

No mesmo ano, Jon decide lançar o seu primeiro álbum solo, com o nome de Blaze of Glory, trilha sonora do filme "Young Guns II" (Jovens Demais Para Morrer 2) que incluiu os hits "Blaze Of Glory" (seu clipe até hoje é um dos mais exibidos em toda história da MTV), “Miracle” e “Santa Fé”.
Richie Sambora lançou também um disco a solo, Stranger in This Town, mais baseado em suas raízes blues, o qual não chamou tanta atenção da mídia. As vendas foram baixas e a turnê promocional, bastante curta.

Em 1992, a banda se reúne-se de novo para gravar Keep The Faith álbum este que trás uma mensagem bastante crítica da sociedade. Neste álbum a banda assume também um novo visual, entrando então mais na década de 90.

Em 1994, a banda lança a colectânea Cross Road que é uma das colectâneas mais populares do mundo, que contém duas músicas inéditas: "Always" e "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night". Nesse mesmo ano, Alec John Such deixa a posição de baixista da banda, sob rumores de alcoolismo, drogas e vários acidentes de moto. Entrando então o baixista Hugh McDonald assumindo seu lugar sendo ainda hoje um membro adicional da banda.

Em 1995, a banda lança o álbum These Days, marcado por um clima mais sombrio, sendo mais socialmente crítico do que o ultimo Keep the Faith, tendo este a sua composição visivelmente mais complicada e madura.

Em 1997, Jon lança o segundo álbum a solo, Destination Anywhere, que foi um álbum voltado ao pop rock acompanhado de uma curta-metragem que teve a colaboração de Mark Pellington como director e roteirista. No ano seguinte, Richie faz o mesmo, com o seu álbum Undiscovered Soul, mostrando um grande amadurecimento musical, tendo no CD participação de Steve Tyler dos Aerosmith na gaita de "If God was a woman".

A banda voltou a reunir-se após a segunda separação no ano de 2000, lançando o álbum Crush, que foi um sucesso comercial com o single "It's My Life", considerado um dos maiores hits da história da banda, além de outros sucessos menores como "Just Older", "Say It Isn't So", "Next 100 Years", "One Wild Night" e uma balada fantástica e romântica "Thank You for Loving Me".

Em 2001, atendendo aos pedidos dos fãs que clamavam por um álbum ao vivo, a banda lança One Wild Night Live 1985-2001 contendo uma colecção de sucessos em algumas das melhores apresentações ao longo dos anos da banda na estrada.

No ano seguinte, em 2002, a banda lança o álbum Bounce, outro álbum de estúdio inspirado, em parte, nos atentados de 11 de Setembro, com os hits "Everyday" e "Misunderstood". Este álbum já mostrava uma grande mudança no Bon Jovi, contendo músicas mais modernas, bem agrupadas, e a pedido do guitarrista da banda, Richie Sambora um som mais pesado.

No ano de 2003, lançaram o This Left Feels Right, outra coleção de regravações dos grandes sucessos da banda em versões acústicas. Neste álbum a ideia inicial da banda era lançar um álbum dum show ao vivo gravado no Japão, com quase 3 horas de duração. Porém, decidiram de última hora fazer uma regravação de todos os seus sucessos, apesar de não ter sido muito aceite pelos seus fãs.

No final do ano de 2004 lançaram um Box Set.: 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can´t be Wrong para comemorar os 20 anos de existência da banda, que coincidiram com um número superior a 100 milhões de cópias vendidas de seus álbuns em todo o mundo.

Em Setembro de 2005 foi lançado o álbum Have a Nice Day este que vendeu cerca de 4,5 milhões de unidades em todo o mundo.

Seguido dois anos já no ano 2007, a banda lança Lost Highway, este sendo um álbum voltado para o estilo Country, quatro dos singles já lançados foram a balada “(You Want to) Make a Memory”, a faixa “Lost Highway”, além de outra bonita balada, “Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore”, com a participação de LeAnn Rimes, cantora de música Country, e por último, o mais recente single “Whole Lot of Leavin'”, lançado em Maio de 2008.

A banda Bon Jovi continua em gravações e com grandes planos para 2009 onde se espera um novo álbum que diz fugir ao estilo Country do álbum Lost Highway, diz-se também que vai contar com a participação do guitarrista português Caterr, para tocar em algumas músicas ao lado do nosso Richie Sambora.

Actualmente, a banda já vendeu no total de todos os seus trabalhos incluindo o último álbum Lost Highway lançado em 2007 mais de 200 milhões de cópias por todo o mundo.

Bon Jovi classified as a hard rock band founded in the year 1984 in the state of New Jersey. The name Bon Jovi, was a joke that members of the band did with the name of Jon.
